Lincoln Area YMCA believes that giving back and supporting its community is
important. Although our Y mostly provides programs for kids, this story shares how our
Y values older adults in our community keeping active and healthy too.
The Y recognizes that people of all ages need and want to stay active, working
toward improving and maintaining their health. Since 2007, Lincoln Area YMCA
has offered a free walking program to adults 55+ years every week day during the
school year from 1-3 pm. During 2012, 30 adults enjoyed this opportunity and came
at their convenience to our gym on Wyatt Avenue to walk. These adults see it as an
opportunity to remain active in a safe and warm environment, as well as an opportunity
to meet other adults and enjoy fellowship, and it is free! Active older adults are invited
and welcome to come to the Y and work on keeping a healthy lifestyle. Call the Y and
we’ll share more info!
